Head Chair

MinSeo Kang

Grade 10

Greetings Honorable Chairs, fellow Delegates, and Esteemed Guests,

My name is MinSeo Kang,  a 10th grader currently attending the United Nations International School of Hanoi. I have been participating in MUN for 3 years now, and it is truly a great honor for me to be serving in the upcoming conference as the Head Chair of the United Nations Human Rights Council. In this conference, I, as a head chair, would commit to work with our deputy and procedural chairs to support all delegates for the best of their success.

The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) is a United Nations body aiming to promote and protect human rights around the world. This year, we are looking to regulate our debate on the following topics:

‘The question of legal protections for transgender populations’, ‘The question of the erosion of workers’ rights’, and ‘The question of protecting freedom of the press for journalists’, which are what I am personally passionate about.

Here in this website, you can find a map of countries where LGBTQ+ communities are still criminalized. The ongoing erosion of workers comes from the inadequate labor laws and attacks on workers, and the rights of journalists are often found to be guilty of speaking up for the public.

This is a kind reminder for delegates that the theme of the upcoming conference is, ‘What can we do to bring balance to the growing asymmetries of power?’ In order to achieve this, please take advantage of the chair reports and be fully prepared with your research, as it significantly contributes to the flow of the conference. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact myself and any of the chairs.

Thank you, and see you in the conference!

Deputy Chair

Nguyen Khoa Duc

Grade 10

Greetings Honorable Chairs, Distinguished Delegates, and Esteemed Guests

My name is Nguyen Khoa Duc, a 10th grader that is currently attending Concordia Hanoi International School. This is my second year of MUN and I am honored to be the Deputy Chair of the Human Rights Council in the upcoming UNISMUN in Early 2023. My passions are public-speaking, diplomacy, and debate. I hope all delegates will find this upcoming UNISMUN as a place to grow as a person and diplomat

The theme of the upcoming UNISMUN conference, “What can we do to bring balance to the growing asymmetries of power?” deeply resonates with me as we continue to observe the world and its state, and the power imbalances from the growing wealth divide to entire mass-scale invasions of countries, and more have made this a glaring issue. I am glad that UNISMUN has given us the chance to address this growing problem.

I believe that the role of the Human Rights Council (HRC), which promotes the protection and strengthening of human rights worldwide but also addresses human rights violations for the sake of equality, is integral to a world like ours, where in the midst of inequality and chaos, it is necessary for us to establish equality for every member of society as equality can bring peace and stability.

This upcoming UNISMUN conference, the HRC will deal with 3 issues: the question of legal protections for transgender populations, the question of protecting freedom of the press for journalists, and the question of the erosion of workers’ rights. I believe that all three of these issues will be a great topic to discuss for HRC as these three issues deal with what I believe are great alarms that show the asymmetries of power in today’s society

Thank you, and good luck delegates!

Procedural Chair

Beomjoon Park

Grade 9

Greetings honorable chairs, distinguished delegates and most esteemed guests,

My name is Beomjoon Park and I am a grade 9 student attending United Nations International School of Hanoi. I am passionate about MUN because I get to see countries come and work together to come up with a resolution on various, different and relevant topics. This is my tenth year at UNIS Hanoi and I am very excited to be the procedural chair for the Human Rights Council.

The theme of the UNISMUN 2023 March conference is “What can we do to bring balance to the growing asymmetries of power?” I believe that balance is very important in our world especially when it comes to balance of power. There are a lot of unequal parts in the world and I believe that equality is something that should be brought more into the world.

Bringing balance to power in the world is very significant in the Human Rights Council. A lot of human rights issues arise because of inequality in rights. The Human Rights Council promotes and protects human rights around the globe and I believe this can be achieved when the member states come together to discuss the different issues within the committee.

The three topics Human Rights Council will cover at the UNISMUN 2023 March conference are, “the question of legal protections for transgender populations,” “the question of protecting freedom of press for journalists,” and “the question of the erosion of workers’ rights.” All three deal with inequality, whether it is inequality in transgender populations, journalists or workers, I believe all of these topics are important to discuss.

I am looking forward to meeting everyone in the Human Rights Council and seeing everyone participate passionately and professionally.
