Head Chair
Nguyen Trung Nghia
Grade 11
Fellow chairs, distinguished delegates, honorable guests and directors,
I am Nguyen Trung Nghia and currently a junior at Delta Global School. It is my honor to be able to serve as the head chair for the UNISMUN 2024 November conference in the General Assembly 2 committee. This conference will be my 7th or 8th conference in my MUN career, since unfortunately I cannot recall quite clearly the number of times I have participated in Model UN conferences. Putting that aside, this will be my second time chairing at UNISMUN as a head chair. With that, I am very hopeful and excited for this upcoming conference to be able to be in this prestigious position.
For our November conference this time, the chosen topic is “How can we use regional cooperation to promote equitable development?” Beyond cooperation on a national level, this topic requires all delegates to look at public issues on a smaller scale, demanding high attention to detail and communication across a multitude of perspectives on a solution. Additionally, equality is a constant balancing act between policy makers and the regional communities in order to keep up with changing social and economic problems.
In GA2, we dive into the sections of debt-trapping and universal minimum corporate tax, which are tied closely to the responses of countries on how to deal with complex economic issues connected to these topics. During the debate, I hope all delegates participating warm up quickly to the rest of the committee as well as my chair team in order to debate fruitfully and be open to potential new knowledge in our discussions and caucuses.
Excited to see what our delegates can cook up, see you all very soon!

Deputy Chair
Dao Lien Ha
Grade 10
Honorable chairs, distinguished delegates and esteemed guests,
My name is Dao Lien Ha and I am a sophomore at Delta Global School. It is with great enthusiasm that I welcome you to UNISMUN 2024 as the Deputy Chair for the General Assembly 2. This will mark my 10th MUN conference.
The two topics for General Assembly 2 are the question of debt trapping and the question of universal minimum corporate tax, which ties back to the core missions of this committee. In real life, the General Assembly Second Committee (GA2) of the United Nations primarily deals with economic and financial matters. It is responsible for discussions surrounding global economic development, financial stability, sustainable development, and international trade, among other areas.
As we explore these topics, I encourage all delegates to think critically about how multilateral cooperation impacts diverse stakeholders and fosters lasting economic change. Through collaboration and innovative policy solutions, I believe we can make a meaningful impact.
I look forward to working with you all, and I’m confident that together we can pave the way toward a more sustainable and equitable future.
Best regards,
Dao Lien Ha

Procedural Chair
Asmi Alavadi
Grade 10
Greetings esteemed delegates, chairs, directors and guests,
My name is Asmi Alavadi and I’m a sophomore at UNIS Hanoi. I am honored to serve as the procedural chair for GA2. I have been involved in MUN since grade 6. This will mark my 12th MUN conference, but my first one as a chair.
“How can we use regional cooperation to promote equitable development?” is the theme of this conference. This theme emphasizes the need to promote collaboration with other countries and engage in mutual cooperation to strengthen common interests. In this rapidly changing society, inequality is bound to happen and cannot be avoided, but through developing connections with countries, strong policies can be built and action can be taken to improve the social conditions.
GA2 will focus on two topics, strongly linked to the theme. The first one is “The question of debt trapping”. In my opinion this is a very interesting topic. Many nations extend loans to a borrowing nation with the intention of increasing their political clout, this is also known as ‘debt-trap diplomacy’. This type of diplomacy comprises giving borrowing states loans with repayment terms that are too difficult for them to meet, ultimately pressuring them to make political or economic compromises. Every state has a different perspective on this issue and I hope to incorporate such cases in discussions during the conference. The second topic is “The question of universal minimum corporate tax”. Universal minimum tax is a standard minimum tax rate on company income that is implemented by many countries in accordance with an international agreement. This is another topic extremely relevant to the theme. I look forward to having fruitful discussions on this topic.
GA2 will be tackling issues regarding the financial and economical factors. This committee addresses reducing poverty levels globally and enhancing living and social standards. Delegates within GA2 are expected to tackle these issues by fostering policies, facilitating dialogue among other states to reduce inequality and promote economic growth.
I look forward to meeting all of you in November and creating some unforgettable memories :)
