Head Chair
Mai The Phuc
Grade 11
Fellow chairs, distinguished delegates, honorable guests and directors,
I am Nguyen Trung Nghia and currently a junior at Delta Global School. It is my honor to be able to serve as the head chair for the UNISMUN 2024 November conference in the General Assembly 2 committee. This conference will be my 7th or 8th conference in my MUN career, since unfortunately I cannot recall quite clearly the number of times I have participated in Model UN conferences. Putting that aside, this will be my second time chairing at UNISMUN as a head chair. With that, I am very hopeful and excited for this upcoming conference to be able to be in this prestigious position.
For our November conference this time, the chosen topic is “How can we use regional cooperation to promote equitable development?” Beyond cooperation on a national level, this topic requires all delegates to look at public issues on a smaller scale, demanding high attention to detail and communication across a multitude of perspectives on a solution. Additionally, equality is a constant balancing act between policy makers and the regional communities in order to keep up with changing social and economic problems.
In GA2, we dive into the sections of debt-trapping and universal minimum corporate tax, which are tied closely to the responses of countries on how to deal with complex economic issues connected to these topics. During the debate, I hope all delegates participating warm up quickly to the rest of the committee as well as my chair team in order to debate fruitfully and be open to potential new knowledge in our discussions and caucuses.
Excited to see what our delegates can cook up, see you all very soon!

Deputy Chair
Nguyen Thai Huong Giang
Grade 11
Honorable Chairs and distinguished Delegates,
My name is Nguyen Thai Huong Giang, and I am currently a junior at Nguyen Tat Thanh Lower and Upper Secondary School. This UNISMUN 2024 November conference marks my 3rd conference at UNIS and my first time participating as a deputy chair.
The theme of the conference, “How can we use regional cooperation to promote equitable development?” emphasizes the importance of the combined effort that each country in certain parts of the world should create in order to stimulate economic, social and political growth. This theme helps our committee, African Union benefit from all factors on a national scale, such as manufacturing, science, technology, and education. Therefore, African Union countries will have an open and collaborative environment for all citizens to fully reach their potential.
The African Union committee has 2 debate topics, “Question of democratic backsliding” and “Question of peacekeeping efforts in states of conflict”. For the first topic, delegates will debate upon political changes and participation, as well as democratic norms in African governments. Delegates have to provide themselves with deep understanding about democratic backsliding in African politics specifically and global politics generally. Looking closer at the second topic, the United Nations has defined “peacekeeping in conflict” as “one among a range of activities undertaken by the United Nations to maintain international peace and security throughout the world”. Delegates will exchange views about the significance of peacekeeping in a society that is still conquering challenges created by wars and disagreement between nations, especially in Africa. This topic highlights the role of African Union countries in minimizing the consequences of the peace crisis.
Finally, I truly hope that this will be another successful conference, and I am looking forward to the debates as well as the enthusiastic engagement of all delegates at UNISMUN November 2024!
Sincerely,
Nguyen Thai Huong Giang

Procedural Chair
Junyoung Cho
Grade 11
My name is Junyoung Cho, a junior in UNIS Hanoi, and I would be serving as a procedural chair for this November MUN 2024 Conference. This is my third time participating in the MUN Conference, and the first time serving as a procedural chair.
The theme of our conference is ‘How can we use regional cooperation to promote equitable development?’ The theme is directly related to the African Union, since equitable development is more necessary in the African Union. In order to promote equal and fair development between regions, regional cooperation would be essential. By fostering a collaborative environment between regions of conflict, countries can create a more balanced approach to development that benefits all member states.
The African Union focuses on providing space for African countries to gather and handle regional issues and crises. The role of the African Union span across peace and security, and political crisis. In this conference, one issue is about ‘Question of democratic backsliding’ and Democratic backsliding, the state-led debilitation or elimination of any of the political institutions that sustain an existing democracy, is a primary issue in Africa in the last few years. Reversing democratic backsliding would require certain measures within the country and region. Another issue of the committee is ‘Question of peacekeeping efforts in states of conflict’ Various conflicts are currently ongoing in a considerable number of countries. As maintaining peace is one of the roles of the African Union, countries would have to reach a compromise through productive communication among the region.
That being said, I am looking forward for a fruitful debate between engaged participations from countries with distinct perspectives as the procedural chair of the African Union.
