Head Chair
Jayden Lee
SFS - Grade 11
Greetings honorable directors, distinguished delegates, and esteemed guests,
My name is Jayden, a junior attending Seoul Foreign School. This is my fourth year being a part of the MUN community, with this UNISMUN March 2026 Conference marking my 8th conference. For this UNISMUN conference, I will serve as the Head Chair of GA6. Hence, I hope to utilize my knowledge and experience gained over the years to foster the best debate possible.
This conference’s theme, “Is our rules based international system able to adapt to contemporary challenges to security and sovereignty?” emphasizes how we, as a society, have a duty to hold all member states accountable of issues that affect citizens world wide.
Specifically, GA6’s committee topics synthesize state sovereignty and global responsibility through the following ways: Firstly, the question of addressing the legal implications of artificial intelligence in international law enforcement directly engages with the rapid development of AI from security blockchain to AI warfare. With this newly-advanced innovation, delegates must be careful with setting limits on AI while respecting independent innovation within member states.
Secondly, the question of revisiting legal protections for journalists and human rights defenders in conflict zones illustrates how in a world of insidious yet rampant waves of misinformation, exploitation, and oppression, journalists and human rights defenders act as the delta to truth. Hence, there is a principle justice to protect these individuals to capture the true narrative of conflict.
Lastly, the question of establishing an international legal standard on the use of the death penalty traces back to the 18th century BCE, yet has only recently been at the heart of contention regarding morality and ethics. Thus, GA6 will aim to re-address use of the death penalty through analysis of punishment proportionality along with alternatives to decrease recidivism across the global sphere.
To this extent, GA6 can be summarized as the primary forum responsible for all legal matters ranging from international law, treaties, and legal issues including terrorism and human trafficking.
With all this said, I look forward to working with you at the upcoming UNIS MUN conference.
See you in March. Toodles!
Jayden
Deputy Chair
Hyorin Chun
UNIS. - Grade 9
Greetings honorable MUN directors, fellow chairs, distinguished delegates, and esteemed guests,
My name is Hyorin Chun, a 9th grader at the United Nations International School of Hanoi. This upcoming UNISMUN March conference marks my ninth conference and in this conference, I will be serving as a deputy chair.
This 2026 March conference theme, “Is Our rules-based International system prepared to address the contemporary challenges of Security and Sovereignty?” represents a critical and timely issue confronting Global Governance. Global governance is presently challenged by its Treaty-Based and cooperative institutions as a result of rapid technological advances, emerging trends, and escalating differences in the interpretation of national Sovereignty. International law must now determine if it will continue to evolve with these rapidly changing conditions or if it will create significant gaps within the framework of Global Security and global justice.
This GA6 Committee deals with international law, and will cover all aspects of interpretation and development of international law, as well as how it provides for the achievement of justice while respecting National sovereignty. The work of this Committee illustrates the broader issue of establishing and maintaining global norms that we are adaptable to.
The first topic, “The question of addressing the legal implications of artificial intelligence in international law enforcement,” discusses one of the most significant systematic changes occurring today. With artificial intelligence becoming a larger part of policing, monitoring, and the prevention of transnational crime, there arise issues of accountability, transparency, and compliance with international human rights law arise. The crucial part of this is to examine how to develop a system to regulate and monitor emerging technologies while continuing to respect state sovereignty and promoting global security.
The second topic, “The question of re-evaluating legal protections for journalists and human rights defenders during conflict,” shows a growing need for better protections under both international humanitarian law and international human rights law. While there are existing treaties that provide protections, enforcement of these treaties continues to be sporadic, and as a result, violations of these treaties are increasing. Therefore, our committee, GA6, needs to develop a mechanism to evaluate whether the existing legal framework is sufficient to protect individuals who put their lives at risk.
Finally, the third topic, “The question of establishing an international legal standard on the use of the death penalty,” encourages finding a balance between internationally recognized rights and domestically established law when determining the legality of capital punishment. The shift toward a universal view against it has created a gap between internationally recognized human rights standards and those of many countries, thus creating a conflict between them.
I look forward to seeing all of you guys in the upcoming UNISMUN March conference!
Best,
Hyorin Chun
Procedural Chair
Hye In Jeon
Concordia - Grade 12
Greetings, distinguished delegates and most esteemed guests,
My name is Hye In, and I am a senior at Concordia International School Hanoi. I have been part of the CISH MUN program since grade 9, and this will be the 8th and last conference of my career. It is my greatest honour to serve as your procedural chair for UNISMUN March.
This year’s theme is: “Is our rules-based international system able to adapt to contemporary challenges to security and sovereignty?” This connects directly to political geography. It touches on issues such as territoriality, boundaries, globalisation, international relations, and more along the line. GA 6, a committee focusing on legal standards and international laws, plays a crucial role in addressing this question.
We will dive deeper into this year’s theme through discussing topics: the legal implications of AI, protections for journalists in conflict zones, and the establishment of international standards for the death penalty.
Our first topic is“The question of addressing the legal implications of artificial intelligence in international law enforcement.” It emphasises on how technological innovations have grown rapidly and the concerns that have come with them. The use of Artificial Intelligence(AI) used in law enforcement--such as facial recognition, surveillance, and data analysis--will face human rights challenges without universal norms. It is our job to ensure international standards that can correspond to the vast innovation and civilian safety.
Given that some areas are going through a conflict, our second topic, “The question of revisiting legal protections for journalists and human rights defenders in conflict zones,” aims to address the safety of all journalists in those zones as civilians. Freedom of speech must be protected, but there must also be care taken regarding the spread of misinformation that escalates violence. GA 6 will work on defining the delicate borderline that enforces human rights and strengthens security.
Lastly, our third topic, “The question of establishing an international legal standard on the use of the death penalty,” tackles the long-standing issue, setting the global framework of capital punishment when nations have distinctive perspectives regarding the death penalty. This encourages cooperation and dialogues among all member states to balance state sovereignty within the human rights standard.
I look forward to building a memorable experience with every single one of you in March. Best of luck for your preparation.
Cheers,
Hye In Jeon
