The issue of regulating lethal autonomous weapons systems (LAWS)
GA1 - 1
Head Chair
HyunJeong Hwang
Grade 8
Honorable directors, fellow delegates, and most esteemed guests,
I am HyunJeong Hwang, an 8th grade student attending the United Nations International School of Hanoi. The November 2025 conference will be my second conference as a chair and I am honored to be the head chair for General Assembly #1 (GA1). As this is my second time being a chair, I hope to continue to grow as a chair myself in not only committing for my effort but also for gaining a deeper understanding of the continuous global conflicts. As I will be standing as a head chair for this conference, I also aim to support my co-chairs throughout their experiences, guiding them towards their own growth. Overall, I am confident that my desire to grow will support me to attain these aspirations and inspire others.
The main theme for this MUN conference is, “The role of sovereignty in diplomacy towards international responsibility”. This is a crucial topic for nations to discuss amongst as in our current world, more nations are desiring for prodigious sovereignty in excess of the previous conditions. As nations act towards expanding their own sovereignty without the lack of diplomatic interference, there are possibilities of different forms of conflicts occurring in various dimensions: socially, financially, politically, and even geographically. Due to this risk, there is an international responsibility that must be resolved for fair diplomacy. Therefore, this conference’s theme will be valuable to debate about as it will provide a better understanding for all of us on how to resolve responsibilities but also apply to real world politics.
The General Assembly 1(GA1) has a vital role in this theme as it focuses on international disarmament and security. The international disarmaments and security highly reflects upon this conference’s topic considering the nation's resolution to compete over sovereignty by utilizing new fundamental methods. These methods involve the usage of autonomous weapons that reflects the mission of GA1 and GA1’s topic for this conference, “the issue of regulating lethal autonomous weapon systems (LAWS)”. The involvement of autonomous weapons through the process of attaining sovereignty loads onto the unresolved conflict that correlates to GA1. Due to this GA1 will take significant responsibility for resolving global issues upon security and disarmaments under the social, financial and political aspects.
Once again, as this is my second conference being a chair, I will dedicate myself to a successful and meaningful debate that contributes to not only my growth but others growth as well. I look forward to watching the process of delegates understanding the ongoing global conflict. Within this, I hope to collaborate with my co-chairs. Lastly, I wish that the November 2025 conference will be a valuable experience for all.
Deputy Chair
Jeongwoo JO
Grade 6
Honorable Directors, fellow delegates, and most esteemed guests,
I am Jeongwoo JO, a 6th grade student from the United Nations International School of Hanoi. I am so thankful to become the deputy chair for the upcoming UNISMUN November Conference. This my first year of attending UNISMUN and I am really honored to be a Deputy Chair that is directing General Assembly #1. Since this is my first year of Chairing I hope to learn from my mistakes and be more comfortable in the audience and hope to improve my communication skills. I am also committed to make a fair and engaging conference for this season of UNISMUN. This Conference’s theme is regulating LAWS (Lethal Autonomous Weapons System). This topic is about regulating Autonomous Weapons as AI controlling could lead to problems like misaiming and the device itself getting hacked to not attack the enemy but their side which could lead to big misfortunes and people having to worry about Gap Accountability for the AI’s Actions.
Even though it is my first year of being an MUN Chair I will try everything it takes to make an engaging conference for everyone that is attending the 2025 UNISMUN November Conference that is hosted at UNIS.
Thank You,
- Jeongwoo JO
GA1 - 2
Head Chair
Hoang Linh Le
Grade 7
Honorable directors, fellow delegates, and most esteemed guests,
I am Hoang Linh Le, a 7th grade student from United Nations International School of Hanoi.
It is an honor to be the Head chair for the upcoming UNISMUN 2025 November conference. This is my first ever MUN as chair, and I have attended 2 conferences as delegate over the past.
This year’s theme “The role of sovereignty in diplomacy towards international responsibility” is all about the individual country’s freedom and the balance of the times for collaborations. This means that countries need to judge whether they should collaborate or work individually depending on the situation.
This year, I am truly honored to direct the General Assembly #1-2 as head chair. For my first ever UNISMUN conference as chair, I want to make it fun as possible but also make it educational for the delegates. I also want to keep improving my communication skills and engaging others to do so as the conference goes on.
The debate topic for GA1 this year is “The issue of regulating lethal autonomous weapons systems (LAWS).” This means regulating non-human controlled weapons, such as drones, robots, AI-driven weapons, and other systems. In simple terms, it is about how nations can control these weapons in a way that reduces violence and encourages responsibility among countries. In the GA1 committee, we should share ideas, debate respectfully, and write resolutions that guide nations toward safer and more responsible use of technology.
Once again, this is my first time chairing, and I’m eager to try my best to make a fun and memorable conference for everyone participating in the 2025 November conference. I am looking forward to seeing creative ideas, respectful debates, and strong teamwork from all delegates as we work together on this important issue.
Deputy Chair
Hyomin Chun
Grade 7
Honorable directors, fellow delegates, and most esteemed guests,
I am Hyomin Chun, a 7th grade student from United Nations International school Hanoi. I am really grateful to be the deputy chair for the upcoming UNISMUN 2025 November conference. This is my first conference I am attending as a chair, and I am truly honored to direct the General Assembly #2 as the procedural chair. As being the chair for the first time, I hope to keep improving my skills of communication through getting more experiences. I will learn from my head chair and keep improving to be a great procedural chair during the conference. Also, I am fully committed to put in my best efforts to make a fun and engaging conference for everyone.
This year’s theme of UNISMUN November conference General assembly #1 is “Regulating Lethal Autonomous Weapons Systems.” The topic is about weapons that can make decisions without a human controlling them. This might lead to problems like hitting innocent people and not their opponents. And since AI has been getting more advanced as we go, this topic is in the need of being discussed.
Once again, this is my first year as a chair, I will try my best to create an engaging conference where everyone participates and make our committee a safe place for everyone to feel comfortable speaking up. As I was a delegate for the past 2 conferences, I think I can connect with people who are new to MUN and I can understand their struggle of speaking up for the first time. But I hope that the UNISMUN November 2025 conference can be a good experience for everyone. As a chair, I hope to have such a great conference debating about global problems. I hope this UNISMUN November conference will be a good memory.
