The question of establishing countermeasures against human trafficking
Head Chair
Sunga Yoo
Grade 7
Most esteemed delegates, chairs, directors, and guests,
My name is Sunga Yoo, I am in 7th grade and attend United Nations International School. I will be participating as Head chair of the ASEAN committee during the April Conference of 2026.
This is my 2nd year in MUN, since I joined in 2024 September. This is my second conference as a chair, 4th conference of MUN and I’m looking forward to it. I will try my best to make a fun committee where delegates are comfortable to share their opinions and POIs.
The theme for this conference is “To what extent can international agreements effectively protect us against global threats?”. As the world keeps changing, there are new issues threatening the whole world globally. It’s important that we keep international agreements effectively for international security, climate change, pandemics, etc.
The question for the ASEAN committee at this conference is “The question of establishing countermeasures against human trafficking”. This question discusses the need for countermeasures against human trafficking. Human trafficking is a global problem that had been around before the 1900s. In this committee, delegates will come up with different resolutions regarding the specific actions of countermeasures to take in order to allow no more human trafficking. More than half of the world’s human trafficking is happening in Asia. Human trafficking is happening all around Asia, specifically in the Philippines, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Indonesia for cyber slavery, forced criminal activities, forced labor, sexual exploitation, forced marriage, scam farms, etc, so it is important that we as a committee address the problem.
Last year, I was the procedural chair for the HRC committee, and I learned that we all have to try our best to make a fun conference. I hope that all the delegates enjoy the conference this April.
This is my second time chairing, and I’m delighted to be listening to the delegate’s debates, PoIs, resolutions, and opening speeches during the conference. I will take this opportunity to learn from other chairs, and delegates. Concludingly, I hope that the April conference of 2026 will be a good memory for everyone participating.
Deputy Chair
Karim Haruki Kitabatake
Grade 8
Honorable directors, fellow chairs, righteous delegates, and most esteemed guests,
My name is Karim Kitabatake, an 8th grade student at the United Nations International School in Hanoi. This is my 2nd conference as a chair.
I will be honored to be a chair of the ASEAN committee. As a chair, I will make sure to create an engaging and fruitful debate for the committee.
The theme for this year’s conference is "To what extent can international agreements effectively protect us against global threats?"
The main topic for ASEAN is “the question of establishing countermeasures against human trafficking”. Human trafficking is a large problem not just in Asia, but the whole world and many people are unwillingly taken for labor and assault, which is a serious issue. In the context of this conference’s theme, international agreements are able to facilitate measures to make sure that we can solve large and dangerous issues such as human trafficking. ASEAN is also an international group consisting of 10 countries, which together could foster agreements that could solve these issues more effectively.
From my experience as a delegate in my previous conference, I can agree that it can be stressful and pressuring to be a delegate with all of the procedures, research, debates, and more. I hope to make this debate safe for everyone to speak up and express their opinions. I’m also looking forward to seeing the ways that delegates run the debate and hope to help them as they go on in their MUN journeys.
I’m also very excited to further improve my own skills as a chair the second time around, as the first time I was a chair I could’ve been better.
I hope to see the delegates at their very best, prepared to debate, passionate, and ready to create a memorable conference!
