The question of establishing legal protections against forced child labor
Head Chair
Karin Kurashima
Grade 8
Honorable directors, fellow delegates, and most esteemed guests,
My name is Karin Kurashima, in 8th grade at the United Nations International School. I will be this year’s head chair for the Human Rights Council. Having previously chaired the security council, I am honored to take on a leadership role again and continue contributing to UNISMUN. Model United Nations has significantly shaped my understanding of global issues. Through MUN, I have developed my skills in diplomacy and debate, and chairing has allowed me to see these discussions from a broader perspective. As head chair, I look forward to facilitating a thoughtful debate and supporting delegates as they engage with challenging topics.
The theme for the April conference will be: “To what extent can international agreements effectively protect us against global threats?” In a world that is increasingly becoming interconnected, global threats such as armed conflicts, displacement, and human rights violations continue to affect countries worldwide, international agreements, such as human rights conventions and global climate treaties aim to promote collaboration and shared responsibility. However, how effective these agreements are usually depend on how seriously they are enforced and respected by countries. This theme encourages delegates to explore how effective agreements such as these really are in addressing global threats.
For the Human Rights Council, “The question of establishing legal protections against forced child labor,” will be this conference’s topic. This topic is particularly relevant, as forced child labor remains a serious violation of human rights in many parts of the world. Although international conventions and national laws try to protect children, the enforcement and application are often inconsistent. In some cases, poverty, conflict, and weak legal systems contribute to the exploitation of children. Delegates will have the opportunity to consider how stronger legal protections and international cooperation can safeguard children’s rights and well-being better.
I look forward to working closely with the chairs and delegates to ensure a respectful, engaging, and productive committee environment. I hope this conference provides a space for collaboration and well-developed solutions. I am excited to meet all delegates and take part in a successful April 2026 conference.
Thank you!
Deputy Chair
Kiara Baloghdi
Grade 7
Honorable directors, fellow chairs, esteemed delegates and distinguished guests,
My name is Kiara Baloghdi, and I am a 7th grade student at the United Nations International School of Hanoi. This is my 6th conference (including being an admin for the two passed HS conferences ) and my third time participating as chair. I am honored to be the Deputy Chair for HRC in the April 2026 MS conference . As I have already gained some experience, I will try my best to reflect on my past conferences and improve my skills as a chair.
The theme for the April conference will be: “To what extent can international agreements effectively protect us against global threats?”. This topic is crucial to discuss because as the world ages, shifts and adapts to its new surroundings humans have created, there could be a risk of new severe global threats, leading to disagreements between countries.
The topic discussed in the Human Rights Council this conference is “The question of establishing legal protections against forced child labor.” Although governments try to strengthen and enforce laws that protect children, child labor still remains a big issue globally which is a violation of children’s (and human) rights. Children are forced into working mainly because of poverty and neglect, causing these laws to be violated. It is a major world issue that is crucial to discuss in the HRC committee as it is a global matter.
As this will be my final conference participation, I hope to have a meaningful and memorable experience that I can look back on with positive reflection. I plan to thoughtfully consider my previous experiences as chair in order to contribute my best efforts during this concluding engagement. I also hope that the HRC committee fosters an atmosphere of constructive debate, forging new friendships that everyone finds enjoyable and rewarding.
Thank you!

Se Ah (SeAh) Lee
Grade 7
Most esteemed delegates, fellow chairs, directors, and guests,
My name is SeAh Lee and I will serve as the Procedural Chair for the Human Rights Council committee this April 2026 UNISMUN conference.
I have been a part of UNISMUN since November 2024 as a 6th grade, and this is my third conference as a part of UNISMUN as a 7th grade, and the first conference as a chair.
The theme of the April 2026 conference will be “To what extent can international agreements effectively protect us against global threats?”. As global threats are continuing to grow in many branches of the world, and harming the relationships among countries and the physical land and people of the countries themselves. It is important to discuss the major threats that impairs our world as a whole.
The topic discussed in the Human Rights Council this conference is “The question of establishing legal protections against forced child labor.” Even though many countries are trying to stop child labour, child labour is still happening all over the world. The Human rights council in the UNISMUN april 2026 conference will be discussing and making many opinions nd resolutions to establish legal protections for children in forced labour. This topic will provide many different ideas of protections and resolutions that will be connected to the rights 0of children.
I hope that this conference will be an awesome experience for me as a first time chair, being able to grow as a chair of UNISMUN. I look forward to seeing you all at the April 2026 conference.
Thank you,
SeAh. L
