Greetings, honorable directors, distinguished delegates, and esteemed guests,
My name is Youie Namkung, a junior at True North International School. This UNISMUN November 2026 Conference marks my 7th MUN conference overall, and it is an honor to serve as Head Chair of BRICS.
Outside of MUN, I am passionate about competitive debating and public speaking. Through these experiences, I have developed a deep interest in how different countries navigate turbulent issues and engage with one another through dialogue, striving toward common goals.
This year's N2026 conference theme is “To what extent can multilateralism remain effective in an increasingly divided world?” This theme is at the core of BRICS, an intergovernmental organization that promotes political and economic cooperation among its member states. As BRICS continues to expand its influence in global governance, this raises important questions about whether countries with diverse national interests can work together effectively. Delegates will have the opportunity to examine how multilateral cooperation can remain meaningful despite growing international divisions.
Our first topic is “The question of BRICS membership expansion.” As 30+ countries await to join BRICS, the organization has the potential to strengthen the representation of emerging economies and amplify their voices in global decision-making. However, expansion also presents challenges, as countries with different political systems and economic priorities must find common ground. This topic encourages delegates to consider how BRICS can become more inclusive while maintaining effective cooperation among its members.
Our second topic is “The question of accelerating de-dollarisation efforts amongst member states.” The US dollar plays a significant role in international trade and finance, and BRICS members have explored alternatives to reduce their reliance. While de-dollarisation could provide countries with greater financial autonomy, it also raises concerns about economic stability and the challenges of coordinating different financial systems. This topic highlights how decisions made by BRICS members could influence the global economy and the future of international financial cooperation.
As the Chair, I hope to guide delegates towards meaningful discussions and assist them in developing their understanding of multilateralism in an ever-more divisive world. I look forward to welcoming you all in November!
Deputy Chair

RepWith highest regards to the distinguished delegates and profound respect to the honorable guests, directors, and chairs.
My name is Seung Heon Ji, a junior attending UNIS Hanoi. I joined the UNIS MUN in grade 9, have participated in 5 conferences as a delegate so far, and will be participating as a deputy chair in the BRICS. The upcoming UNISMUN November 2026 Conference will be my 7th conference and my second conference as a chair, and I am absolutely delighted and honored to serve this committee as a chair. As an experienced delegate and chair, I will try my best to make this conference memorable for everyone and provide thoughtful guidance in making a fruitful debate.
BRICS plays a crucial role in the theme of “To what extent can multilateralism remain effective in an increasingly divided world?” As a forum that promotes economic cooperation and greater representation of emerging economies, the theme shows the challenges and opportunities presented by BRICS. Therefore, it is essential to understand different national interests while acknowledging that political and economic differences are essential.
Our first topic, “The question of BRICS membership expansion,” explores the balance between inclusivity and the challenges of maintaining a shared political thought among nations with various interests. This issue raises questions about how emerging economies can strengthen their influence in global decision making.
Our second topic, “The question of accelerating de-dollarisation efforts amongst member states,” investigates the potential consequences and benefits of reducing reliance on the US dollar in international trade. Changes in international monetary systems would reshape economic relationships and affect global financial stability, which are important factors that must be addressed.
Upon preparing and engaging in a discussion of these issues, I would strongly encourage all delegates to remain open-minded, collaborative, and to perceive other nations’ perspectives. As BRICS specifically involves collaboration with nations of diverse stances, success certainly depends on international cooperation. It is through empathy and understanding that account for sovereignty and responsibility that we can work toward meaningful and lasting solutions to the issue.
May this conference serve as a testament to the enduring power of diplomacy, mutual understanding, and international cooperation. I sincerely look forward to welcoming all honorable delegates and esteemed custodians of diplomacy to this honorable congregation of distinguished diplomats, where I hope to behold fruitful debates and meaningful discussions that inspire positive change beyond this conference.
With the utmost respect, everlasting esteem, and highest regards,
Your truly devoted UNISMUN November 2026 BRICS Deputy Chair,
Seung Heon Ji
Procedural Chair
Dung Minh (Mikey) Nguyen
Grade 10
My name is Mikey Nguyen, and I’m a sophomore attending Concordia International School Hanoi. This is my second year being a part of the MUN Community, with this UNISMUN November 2025 Conference marking my 8th conference and my third as a chair; I will serve as the Procedural Chair for BRICS. Outside of MUN, I have participated in business proposal and debating competitions. Through these extracurriculars and MUN, I believe I have the experience required to be a chair and make sure everyone has a chance to develop their political and speaking skills and have meaningful discussions at the conference.
This year, for the UNISMUN Local November Conference, the theme is “To what extent can multilateralism remain effective in an increasingly divided world?” This question is extremely relevant today, as very often countries will have different political beliefs, economic goals, and priorities. However, international cooperation stays important because many global issues cannot be solved by one country alone. BRICS provides an opportunity for countries to discuss shared interests, strengthen economic relationships, and find solutions to the challenges. I encourage delegates to consider how countries can work together even when their interests are not the same.
The first topic is “The question of BRICS membership expansion.” For countries considering joining BRICS, membership could create new opportunities for trade, investment, and stronger diplomatic relationships. At the same time, countries must consider whether their goals align with those of existing members. This topic is important because it encourages delegates to consider how BRICS can expand its influence while still making sure all member states maintain cooperation.
The Second topic will be “The question of accelerating de-dollarisation efforts amongst member states.” What makes this topic interesting is how it shows that economic decisions can also be political decisions. The currencies countries choose to use in trade can influence their relationships with other nations and their dependence on the global financial system. For BRICS members, reducing reliance on the US dollar is not simply a matter of choosing another currency, but also involves building trust and creating systems that work across different economies.
