Honourable delegates, fellow chairs, and esteemed guests,
My name is Võ Hồng Anh, and I’m currently in Year 11 at Nguyễn Tất Thành Lower and Upper Secondary School, Hanoi. I am incredibly honoured to be serving as head chair of the UNISMUN November Conference for the Organisation of American States Committee (OAS). I have witnessed different conferences unfold from diverse perspectives: as a delegate, a DAIS, and now a chair; and this time, UNISMUN November 2026 marks my 5th. MUN has taught me not only how to speak and how to be confident, but also how to be and think as a person - which is what I want to translate to all delegates within this committee through our time working through different topics. I am very enthusiastic and look forward to working with and guiding your experience as a delegate, whether a beginner or an experienced participant.
This conference’s theme, “To what extent can multilateralism remain effective in an increasingly divided world?” is greatly intertwined with what the OAS is facing: polarisation and asymmetry. Founded in 1948, the OAS includes 35 American states, serving as a forum for 35 delegates who will need to navigate their way to balance multilateralism and sovereign rights, addressing remarkable corruption and systematic exploitation, taking note of the monetary and development division while sustaining the economic growth and benefits of each state they represent. Hence, I truly believe that OAS is one of the most suitable committees to address the given theme amongst the American regions.
The question of combating wealth disparity, includes the exploitation of the system of tax, asset ownership, institutional and corporate governance. Within the scope of OAS nations, this topic has a close relation due to the existence of tax havens within the Caribbean - draining 6.1% of its total GDP every year - and the hoarding of basic assets, pushing poverty even further, while the privileged and wealthy continue to nurture their pockets, remarkably within American Latin countries with 80% of urbanisation, though they are deeply unzoned. This question requires countries to work together to strengthen and enforce a mandatory standardised system, while the downside of different solutions should be noted. The question of corruption within sporting events shall also be taken into account by the members of the OAS, as this will not only relate to conflict within a specific field but will rather reflect deeply on the influence of the disparity the delegates are required to face throughout different sessions and address through DRs, while taking different countries' scope into account to solve this problem in blocs of financial-oriented or system-based approaches.
Throughout this conference, as the chair of this interesting committee, I am looking forward to helping and seeing every delegate do their best and have the most memorable experience at this time at UNISMUN. See you all on 28- 29 Nov 2026 - save the date!

Welcome honorable delegates, fellow chairs, and most esteemed guests,
My name is Julian Danailov-Benguernane, and I am a Grade 10 student at the United Nations International School of Hanoi. I am honored to serve as Deputy Chair of the Organisation of American States at the November 2026 UNISMUN Conference. Now in my third year of MUN, I have participated as a delegate, chair, and Secretary-General of our middle school conference. Beyond MUN, my interests in politics, economics, and international law have led me to pursue a future in diplomacy.
This year’s theme, “To what extent can multilateralism remain effective in an increasingly divided world?”, asks us to consider what cooperation actually achieves. Through my research, I have become particularly interested in the distance between international commitments and the protection people receive. I encourage delegates to approach this conference with that same question: how can your resolutions make a difference beyond this room?
The OAS is a regional organisation that promotes democracy, human rights, security, and development across the Americas. Its work includes electoral observation and reviewing countries’ efforts to combat corruption. I believe its importance lies in providing a space where political differences do not remove the responsibility to address shared problems.
Our first topic, corruption in global sporting events, connects with my enjoyment of basketball and my belief that fairness should extend beyond the cohurt. When corruption influences hosting decisions or public spending, its consequences reach communities far beyond sport.
Our second topic, strengthening frameworks to prevent and combat wealth disparity, connects directly with my interests into how unequal resources affect communities’ ability. Having lived in the United States, Senegal, and Vietnam, I am interested in how access to opportunity differs between and within countries. Globally, these inequalities shape whose voices are heard and whose needs are met.
My advice is to wholeheartedly embrace Collaboration over Competition. Prepare carefully, listen openly, and challenge ideas respectfully. I look forward to seeing the solutions you build together.
Sincerely,
Julian Danailov-Benguernane

Salutations distinguished delegates, fellow chairs, wonderful guests and directors!
My name is Doyeon Moon, a junior attending UNIS Hanoi. Having participated in four conferences as delegate, two at UNISMUN and two externally, this marks my first time with the gavel. I remember vividly what it feels like to be the awkward, nervous, rookie delegate in the committee, unsure when to speak or how to phrase the simplest point of order. Because I’ve been in your shoes, my main goal in this conference is to act as a mentor and big sibling to each of you. While I may not have every niche rule memorized, I am dedicated to going the extra mile to support you. If you ever have a question, need guidance, or just want to have somebody to talk to, my door is always open.
This session, our committee will tackle two pressing regional and global issues: the issue of addressing, acknowledging and tackling corruption in global sporting events, and the question of enhancing frameworks to combat & prevent wealth disparity. Both topics demand creative, nuanced solutions and deep cooperative diplomacy. I encourage you all to approach debate with enthusiasm, empathy, and rigorous amounts of research.
In committee, I tend to be relatively laid back and friendly to help ease up new delegates, though I do strive to keep our proceedings structured and by the book so that every voice is heard fairly. Whether this is your first conference or your tenth, I hope to foster an inclusive dynamic environment where you feel empowered to step out of your comfort zone, building meaningful connections and delivering impactful words. I am looking forward to working with you all!
